Types of Stars
Major stages and classifications of stars.
Major stages and classifications of stars.
The main kinds of stars and stellar remnants with a description and a well-known example: main sequence stars, red giants, white dwarfs, neutron stars, black holes and supergiants, plus red and brown dwarfs, variable stars, pulsars, magnetars, Wolf-Rayet stars and binaries.
| Type | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Main Sequence | Stars fusing hydrogen in their cores, including the Sun. | Sun, Sirius |
| Red Giant | Late-stage star that has expanded and cooled. | Betelgeuse |
| White Dwarf | Compact remnant of a low- or medium-mass star. | Sirius B |
| Neutron Star | Extremely dense remnant after a supernova. | Crab Pulsar |
| Black Hole | Object with gravity so strong that light cannot escape. | Sagittarius A* |
| Supergiant | Massive, luminous star nearing the end of its life. | Rigel |
| Red Dwarf | A small, cool, dim main sequence star; the most common kind in the galaxy and very long-lived. | Proxima Centauri |
| Brown Dwarf | An object between a planet and a star in mass that never sustains hydrogen fusion. | Luhman 16 |
| Variable Star | A star whose brightness changes over time; Cepheids are used to measure distances. | Delta Cephei |
| Pulsar | A rapidly rotating neutron star that emits beams of radiation seen as regular pulses. | Crab Pulsar |
| Magnetar | A neutron star with an extremely strong magnetic field that powers bursts of high-energy radiation. | SGR 1806-20 |
| Wolf-Rayet Star | A very hot, massive star shedding its outer layers in a strong stellar wind. | WR 104 |
| Binary Star | Two stars bound by gravity and orbiting a common center of mass. | Sirius A and B |
The shape of this dataset, read from the data itself: every column, its type and a real value. Agents can use this to plan a query without fetching the whole document.
